Desktop Storage Unit
Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are all keeping well and your week is going well. I am having another busy week but I actually feel like I am getting things done. The craft room seems a lot more organised and I am managing to keep on top of my ebay stock. I always feel so much better when things are organised!
At this week's classes we decorated a Desktop Storge unit. Although painting is not my thing, after the painting was done I thoroughly enjoyed decorating it. I think if I make more I will have to employ a team of workers to paint for me. :)
I have had the idea for this from April last year but finally managed to get it organised this month. The wooden unit is approx. 9 1/2 inches x 7 inches and really is quite sturdy. I was planning to paint it with acrylic paint but after a little advice I decided to use Annie Sloan Antoinette chalk paint. A lovely paint to work with I might add. I thought it may need 2 coats but it was fine with one.
I painted the entire unit inside and out including the inside of the drawers but I am sure there are parts you may not need to paint as they will not be seen.
The paper collection I used was from Simple Stories Vintage Botanical so there were a few variations from my design. We put the paper on with Pinflair book binding glue, then filed around the edges and finished with modge podge. I didn't modge podge the entire unit, just the front of the drawers and the top shelf and around the inside of the shelf sides. I finished it off with a flower cut from the same paper.
I had wanted a small dish for the top shelf to put bits and pieces in but wasn't able to find a small enough one. While out shopping I found these small shot glasses which worked just as well. I tied some co-ordinating ribbon on it just to finish it off.
Thank you to everyone who attended this week, as always I had two great evenings, we definitely have some great laughs. Just one more class before the summer, we will be making Cards and it will be on Monday and Tuesday 1st and 2nd July. I have a little idea of what I will be making I just need some creative motivation.
I hope you all have a lovely afternoon, fingers crossed for a little sunshine.
I will be back soon.
Bye for now,
Take care, Heather
